Silverwood Theme Park version 4.0

Scarywood 2019 Haunt Lineup Announced

Silverwood has announced the official lineup for Scarywood 2019. In this post we'll give an overview of what we know so far, and our thoughts on what to expect this year.

2019 marks a big milestone for Scarywood: it's officially been 10 years. Take a moment and let that sink in a bit...10 years ago in 2009 we were teased that "something spooky is coming to Silverwood this fall". We then learned that Scarywood Haunted Nights would grace the park for the first time ever. We could write an entire article about the evolution of the event, but we'll save that for another day. :)

By and large, most of what has been announced is the same as 2018. Returning in 2019 are Blood Bayou, Total Darkness, Pharaoh's Curse, and Planet Zombie. All have the promise of "new haunts and scares", but that's pretty much par for the course. We hear that every year, and usually nothing too substantial changes.

In the way of entertainment, Nick Norton's excellent show "Dillusion" will be returning for its second year, and we couldn't be more excited about that. It was a welcome addition in 2018 to get Nick Norton back on the stage. We hope this continues in future years as well, and can't wait to see how the show has evolved for 2019.

Finally, the Scare Zone lineup appears to be essentially the same as in previous years, with a solid list of seven zones scattered throughout the park.

The big news, of course, is the new haunted attraction: Dr. Delirium's 3D Rockhouse. This will be replacing 3Dementia, which had been around since 2012. It also continues Scarywood's curious obsession with words starting with "d" that have to do with some sort of altered mental state (Dillusion, Dementia, Delirium...). This attraction promises new scares and thrills, along with a new character to seemingly replace Rusty Sprocket from 3Dementia.

We're always glad to see something new come to Scarywood, and with very few exceptions, there has been at least one new or revised haunt each year. So we're excited to check out Dr. Delirium's 3D Rockhouse. That said, on the surface, it sounds like basically a new "skin" on 3Dementia: a 3D haunted attraction with a creepy character and rock tunes blasting your eardrums out through the maze. We'll hold out our reservations until actually experiencing it, but we're a bit skeptical that this will seem all that different than what we're used to.

Additionally, while 3Dementia had been around during 7 years of Scarywood, Blood Bayou had been around for 9; this will indeed be its 10th year of operation. So admittedly, we would rather have seen the oldest haunt undergo a change as well. But we digress; we're just nitpicking here. Blood Bayou is still the best themed haunt, so we won't complain (too much) about its return. Hey, at least we didn't see Pharaoh's Curse get replaced yet again with something new, right? :)

Speaking of, we're glad to hear that Pharaoh's Curse, our favorite haunt of 2018, is back for another year. Planet Zombie is still relatively new, so that's another one we're glad to see back as well. As for Total Darkness...we're in the "meh" camp on this one. It's been around for a long time, and it just doesn't do it for us anymore. There's only so much you can do in a pitch black maze.

One final note - it appears the log flume is back again this year, with the same tease from 2018. Hopefully, there is something added to actually make it scary this time around, as opposed to just the flashing light in the tunnel. There is SO MUCH potential to make that ride creepy!

Indeed, Scarywood 2019 sounds like it should be mostly as we've come to expect in past years, and we are looking forward to checking it out. Stay tuned for our trip report which we'll post as soon as we've had a chance to experience it all!
