(Athol, ID) – Silverwood Theme Park received 6,136 entries for its coaster naming contest, but the winning suggestion came from someone
residing over 2000 miles away.
Richard Palamara, an 18 year old college student and coaster fanatic living in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, was the first person to submit
the selected name: Aftershock.
Palamara, who found out about the contest via an online coaster message board, has ridden a Giant Inverted Boomerang similar to
Silverwood’s. "It was one of my favorite roller coaster experiences. So it’s especially cool for me to think that I’ve named one
of them."
Silverwood has offered Palamara round trip airfare and a two night hotel stay so he can attend the coaster’s Grand Opening party and ride
it during its maiden voyage. Nine other finalists, plus others who entered the Aftershock name after Palamara, will also each be invited
to the party and have the option to ride it first.
Silverwood is the Northwest’s Largest Theme Park, featuring over 65 rides and attractions. Scheduled to open in July, the Aftershock
coaster will give the Park a total of 4 roller coasters, including two classic wooden coasters and the historic Corkscrew. Founded by
local entrepreneur Gary Norton, the park is still family owned and operated. 2008 will mark Silverwood’s 21st season of operation.
