In a bit of positive news for Silverwood fans, the park announced a few weeks ago that Timber Terror will run backwards starting September 12th through to the end of the season. We’ve consistently held the view that this is the single best part of Scarywood each year, so we’re thrilled to hear that the tradition will continue in 2020.
Timber Terror’s train was first switched to run backwards during the Scarywood’s second season in 2010, and was a major hit with guests. We’re told the process to physically reverse the train takes about a week. We’ve noticed that the park usually completes this task early enough in September so that there’s often one or two weekends that guests are able to experience it before Scarywood officially starts. This year, however, since Scarywood will not be held, guests can experience this throughout the entire month of October during regular park operations.
Despite the disappointment of Scarywood’s cancellation, this news presents a few positives. First, some people are not be too keen on attending a Halloween event at a theme park. These events are not for the faint of heart, and so many simply skip them all together. If you fall into this camp, this year is your chance to experience this attraction without having to walk through scare zones to get to it!
The other silver lining is that, as we noted in our Silverwood Cancels Scarywood Haunted Nights article, crowds are likely to be very low in October. And they’ll likely shrink with each succeeding week. This is in stark contrast to the normal crowds at Scarywood, which get markedly worse as each weekend progresses. And since Timber Terror backwards is usually one of the most popular attractions, its queue can often be upwards of 2-3 hours. No Scarywood this year means low crowds which means this will likely not see anything near a 2 hour wait.
Bottom line: if you’ve never had a chance to experience Timber Terror backwards before, and have always wanted to, this would be the year to go give it a shot. As we’ve said now for 10 straight years – this is a DO NOT MISS!
